[GHENT, NY] – The Ghent Playhouse kicks off the second half of its 2019-2020 season with “The Chalk Garden,” by the British author and playwright Enid Bagnold, best known for the 1935 story “National Velvet.” Directed by Cathy Lee-Visscher, “The Chalk Garden” runs January 31-February 16. Tickets are on sale now at GhentPlayhouse.org.
“‘The Chalk Garden’ is a psychological chamber piece set in 1955 Sussex, England,” said Director Cathy Lee-Visscher. “The story explores the secret world of childhood through the prism of a dyed-in-the-wool British dowager, Mrs. St. Maugham, and her precocious and equally eccentric teenage granddaughter, Laurel. When enigmatic Miss Madrigal is hired as household companion and manager, the two finally meet their match.”
“The Chalk Garden” at the Ghent Playhouse runs Friday, Saturday and Sunday, January 31-February 2, February 7-9 and 14-16. Friday and Saturday performances begin at 8:00pm, while Sunday matinees begin at 2:00pm. Tickets are $22 general admission, $17 members, and $10 students.
