ALBANY, NY—October 17, 2019—Capital Repertory Theatre announces a public performance, 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, of its first On-The-Go! touring musical production, Cinderella! which is running in schools across the greater Capital Region through Nov. 3.
Based on Charles Perrault’s classic fairy tale, this musical adaptation was created specifically for theREP’s touring program by Producing Artistic Director Maggie Mancinelli-Cahill and Associate Artistic Director Margaret E. Hall. This is the second co-authorship for the duo, following an extremely popular 2018 touring production of Alice in Wonderland. In addition, Cinderella! features original compositions (with lyrics by Cahill and Hall) by Associate Artist Josh D. Smith.
The adaptation, which utilizes puppets to flesh out a five-actor cast, is set in the ‘50s with doo-wop inspired music. Cahill and Hall chose to utilize an oft-discussed theme of the Cinderella story, illustrating that being a kindhearted person is a good way to live one’s life. In addition, they chose to shine a light the aspect of bullying, inherent in the way Cinderella’s step-family treats her.
The five actors bringing this show to life include local actors Shayne David Cameris (2018 fall tour of Sleepy Hollow and mainstage shows Camelot and Blue-Sky Boys) and Victoria Benkoski (The Full Monty) as well as returning NYC actor Joshua Redfield (Alice in Wonderland and theREP’s 2018 Summer Stage Production), and NYC newcomers Leon Glover and Sara States.
The production features fabulous—and magical—costumes by one of theREP’s favorite designers, Evan Prizant (Shakespeare In Love, Alice in Wonderland … ), as well as a colorful set designed by Justin Swader and Christopher Swader—a brother design team new to theREP. The puppetry found in Cinderella! (the stepsisters and a myriad of animals who are all pals of Cinderella) were created by Prop Master Richard Hochheimer and Assistant Prop Master Vanessa Van Zandt.
Associate Artist Freddy Ramirez tackles choreography for Cinderella!.
theREP’s On-The-Go! program features fully-realized, portable, professional productions which can be performed in any space for an unlimited number of students. The Cinderella! tour, appropriate for Grades K and up, runs from through Nov. 3.
