Mozart’s haunting Requiem came at the very end of his life: He died before he could finish it. A choral masterpiece featuring four renowned vocalists and the powerful forces of the Albany Pro Musica Concert Chorus, it is considered one of the greatest expressions of faith ever cast as a work of art. Yannick Nézet-Séguin, Music Director of the Philadelphia Orchestra and the new Music Director of the Metropolitan Opera, will lead the Orchestra as the finale to the classical season on the amphitheater stage.

Albany Pro Musica’s Artist Series brings the world renown Escher String Quartet to perform with the fine voices of Albany Pro Musica on the stunningly beautiful music of APM’s Composer-in-Residence, Ola Gjeilo.Gjeilo is one of the most frequently performed composers in the choral world. Although Norwegian by birth, it is perhaps Ola’s adopted country of America that has influenced the composer’s distinctive sound world the most, evolving a style that is often described as cinematic and evocative, with a lush, harmonious sound.

This is Albany Pro Musica’s 20th year hosting this beloved invitational festival of regional high school choirs. Guest composer and conductor Darrell Bryan, Adjunct Lecturer at Queen’s University and Artistic Director of the Kingston Chamber Choir, will share the stage with Maestro Flores-Caraballo to conduct a festival chorus of more than 250 voices. Both Bryan and Flores-Caraballo are part of the faculty of the Pro Musica International Choral Festival, which will take place in Kingston, Ontario, and Saratoga Springs in August 2020.

Reena Esmail’s This Love Between Us is a piece about unity. Its seven movements juxtapose the words of seven major religious traditions of India (Buddhism, Sikhism, Christianity, Zoroastrianism, Hinduism, Jainism, and Islam), and specifically how each of these traditions approaches the topic of unity, of brotherhood, of being kind to one another.
