Auditions for the second staged reading of our 2017-18 season will be held
on Sunday and Monday, Dec. 10 and 11.

John Pielmeier, directed by Maggie Mancinelli-Cahill, artistic director
for the Capital Region’s sole year-round professional theatre, theREP.

*Audition dates: *

Auditions will be held at Steamer No. 10 Theatre, 500 Western Ave., Albany.
Please arrive at 7 p.m. and be prepared to stay. Audition sides from the
script will be provided. Actors will be asked to read scenes from the play.

*Performance dates:*
Saturday, Feb. 10, 2018, at 3 p.m. (open rehearsal/performance)
Friday, Feb. 16, at 8 p.m.
Saturday, Feb. 17, at 3 p.m. and 8 p.m.
Sunday, Feb. 18, at 3 p.m.
Actors must be available for all performance dates.

*Available parts:*

Agnes: Early 20s, or able to play that age range. Slightly other-worldly
— or is it that she hears what others cannot? Agnes is a study in
contradictions; she possesses a sweetness but can also be completely
forthright at times. She is guided by God and “love,” always. Agnes has a
pure soprano voice and sings several songs of the liturgy throughout the
play. NOTE: While it is not essential for the actress to sing, those
auditioning are encouraged to bring a prepared hymn to sing a cappella.

Mother Miriam Ruth: Age 50+. Worldly, earthy, nobody’s fool.  Her sense
of humor is evident from her first line. She knows and understands sinners
because she is one. Previously married and a heavy smoker, she came to her
calling late. Passionately protective.

The role of Doctor Martha Livingstone has been cast.

*Play synopsis:*
Summoned to a convent, Dr. Martha Livingstone, a court-appointed
psychiatrist, is charged with assessing the sanity of a novice accused of
murdering her newborn. Miriam Ruth, the Mother Superior, determinedly keeps
young Agnes from the doctor, arousing Livingstone’s suspicions. With Agnes
claiming a virgin conception and having no memory of giving birth,
Livingstone’s questions force all three women to re-examine the meaning of
faith and the power of love — leading to a dramatic, compelling climax.
