CHATHAM, NY — The Mac-Haydn Children’s Theatre here opens for the season on June 30 through July 15 with The Trials of Alice in Wonderland. This update takes the girl who fell down a rabbit hole to brand-new adventures as she is on trial for daring to grow and change.
The fanciful creatures she met in the original story are all trying to help, including the Cheshire Cat who guides Alice as she returns to Wonderland to gather evidence that can prove she is innocent. The Mad Hatter, White Rabbit and Caterpillar all testify on her behalf, while her defense attorneys Tweedledee and Tweedledum keep trying to decide which side they are on!
What the final verdict will be remains a question throughout the show, especially since the Queen of Hearts is the judge.
Laura Michele Erle plays Alice, who is determined to show that she hasn’t changed from the girl who first went to Wonderland. Ms. Erle plays a featured role as one of the Angels in “Anything Goes”.
Katie Skawski is the Queen of Hearts, she is gathering sailor’s hearts and laughs as the gangster’s moll Erma in “Anything Goes”. Michelle Carter leads Alice through Wonderland as the Cheshire Cat. Alex Carr, who won accolades in the title role of Mac-Haydn’s season opening show “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat”, will be the March Hare.
The cast also includes Mac-Haydn 2017 professional company members Quinn Corcoran as the King of Hearts, Ross Flores as the White Rabbit, Stephen Kallas as the Mad Hatter and Stephanie Pratt as Tiny Alice/Alice’s Sister.
Mac-Haydn apprentices Emily Spateholts and Lauren Wrigley will be Tweedledee and Tweedledum, while Emily Allen and Adam Salerno play the Caterpillar and Dormouse. Area youngsters performing as the jurors who decide Alice’s fate are Fiona Phelps, Coltin Luckfield, Matthew Antalek, Mia Porritt, Paxton Brownell, Braeden VanWie, Jane Fisher and Nathaniel Taylor.
